Czech actor Josef Nedorost he became especially famous for his role as the head of a group of moneylenders from the cult film Bony and Klid. But fate was not kind to the charismatic actor with a captivating voice and masculine appearance. At the zenith of his fame, he fell ill with meningoencephalitis, as a result of which he became paralyzed and had to rehabilitate for a long time. According to could be due to illness unpasteurized milk, which he drank during one of the archaeological expeditions.
After the revolution and moving to his native České Budějovice, he began to devote himself to archaeology, to which he was brought by a friend – an archaeologist. He sought to find a sense of satisfaction and meaning in his search for traces of the ancient Celtic times. During one of the expeditions hid from the rain in the nearest cowshed, where the milkmaids had just milked and gave him fresh, unpasteurized milk to drink straight from the tub. The consequences were terrifying.
Without having a tick, he fought meningoencephalitis, inflammation of the meninges. He became paralyzed and ended up in a wheelchair. The disease also contributed to his psychological problems – i.esuffered from depression and anxiety states – and he avoided shooting movies and series, making exceptions only sporadically.
He lived out his youth somewhat in oblivion, but he certainly did not suffer from poverty. In Prague, he owned a total of four apartments in the districts of Háje, Troja, Chodov and Stodůlky. He acquired properties in his prime and never sold them. In addition, he inherited a house and two plots of land in the villages of Dívčice and Olešník from his parents. He died on July 25, 2020 at the age of 64.
Josef Nedorost was born on September 20, 1955 in České Budějovice. He first trained as a car mechanic and later graduated from an agricultural secondary school. He thought for a long time about the direction his professional journey should take, until he finally decided to study acting at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brnowhich he finished in 1982.
He got his first job right after finishing college at the State Theater in Brno (currently the National Theater Brno). From there he headed to the EF Buriana Theater in Prague, where he remained until its cancellation in 1991.
He appeared in the film for the first time as the German boxer Kurt Schaller in the drama directed by Jaroslav Soukup Fists in the Dark (1986). Even then, the filmmakers predicted a promising career with great prospects for him. A year later, their words came true and the life role of Josef Nedorost came – the character of the boss of moneylenders Richard in the film Bony a klid by director Vít Olmer and screenwriter Radek John.
He also acted in films The Angel Seduces the Devil, A Friend in the Rain II – A Story from Brooklyn, Playgirls II, Tramps or Souls as Caviar. He also played a minor role in Russian director Nikita Michalkov’s co-production Siberian Barbier. Fans of the series may remember Nedorost from, for example, the series Redakce, Ulice, Strážce duší, Nováci or Rodáci. The last film role was played by Josef Nedorost in the sequel to the film that made him famous – Bony a klid 2.
