Video: Man runs over police officers responding to accident on SC highway

One hit and run on BR-101 left two PRF agents (Federal Highway Police) and two injured pedestrianson Wednesday night (24), in Biguaçu, Santa Catarina.

A collision occurred after the driver of a car lost control on a sharp curve and spun on a wet roadhitting the group that was already on the side of the road to respond to a previous accident.

Given the refusal, he was fined for a very serious infraction, which involves a fine and suspension of his CNH (National Driving License), and now must be criminally liable for the bodily injuries caused to the four victims.

The pedestrians who were hit remain under medical observation with stable health conditions.

Among the police officers affected, agent Bia Azur suffered a severe fracture in her arm and remains hospitalized for a surgical procedure, scheduled for this Friday (26).

Agent Gilberto Estrela suffered a broken left leg and injuries to his shoulder and arm. Despite the need to immobilize his limbs, he will not need to undergo surgery.

When detailing the moments before the collision, Gilberto Estrela reported that the sound of skidding tires was the first sign of danger. Check out the agent’s testimony in the video below:

The PRF described the violence of the impact and the sequence of the collision: “He hit me, I was thrown back. He hit another boy, who was thrown into the air and spun around, collided with a third vehicle and ended up hitting his colleague who was on the other end”, he recalled.

“I tried to get up and I couldn’t. I started to move slowly to see if I had pain in my back. I lay down for fear of another vehicle leaving the road and taking my life.”

Even though he was injured and unable to walk, the police officer used his own cell phone to ask for support from his teammates in Palhoça, located on the coast of Santa Catarina, and the arrest center. The aid was coordinated by teams from the Arteris Litoral Sul concessionaire and Samu, who took all the injured to hospital units in the region.

During the outburst, Estrela highlighted the emotional weight of the date, remembering that this would be the first Christmas for her son, who turns eight months old next Saturday (27).

The PRF (Federal Highway Police) of Santa Catarina reported that it is monitoring the case and reinforced the warning about the need for caution when driving in the rain, especially in sections with sharp curves where the road’s grip is reduced.
