The Ministry of Racial Equality released, this Friday (26/12), an official note rejecting the case of racism involving the singer and presenter Marcão do Povo. The body’s positioning comes after the artist made public the reason why she refused a tribute that would have been carried out by SBT.
In the note, the Ministry stated that it “repudiates and expresses solidarity” with the singer and highlighted that racist practices violate fundamental rights.

“Racism, regardless of the space in which it is practiced, harms dignity, reinforces historical inequalities and weakens democracy. Racism is a crime and cannot be naturalized, normalized or ignored, just as freedom of expression cannot be confused with authorization to disrespect and practice violence”, states the note.
The aforementioned episode dates back to January 2017, when Marcão do Povo, then on the program A Hora da Venenosa, on Record, used the term “macaca” when referring to the singer. The case had wide repercussions at the time and was debated again after Ludmilla’s public demonstration.
In an outburst on social media, the artist explained her decision to refuse the SBT tribute. According to her, she could not accept a tribute from a broadcaster that, according to her assessment, continues to offer space and visibility to people involved in episodes of racism. The singer stated that her decision is directly related to the history involving the presenter, who she cited as responsible for the offense recorded in 2017.
The position of the Ministry of Racial Equality reinforces the seriousness of the case and adds to the public demonstrations in defense of the singer, highlighting the importance of confronting racism in different spheres of society.
