One day after the escape attempt of Silvinei Vasques, former director of the Federal Highway Police, was thwarted, the Federal Police ordered house arrest for others convicted of the coup plot.
The order was made in compliance with a decision by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court. The aim is to prevent similar attempts.
In Ponta Grossa (PR), the PF was at the home of the former international advisor to the Presidency, to communicate the decision. He uses an electronic ankle bracelet and had authorization to leave the house during the day, which has now been revoked.
Other convicts who are still not serving prison terms because they have not exhausted their appeals are being notified this Saturday (27).
Vasques was arrested in Paraguay this Friday (26), when he tried to board a flight to El Salvador. He lived in Santa Catarina and broke his electronic ankle bracelet in an attempt to escape, but was intercepted at Asunción airport, the capital of the neighboring country, and has already returned to Brazil. In his case, Moraes ordered preventive arrest.
In a statement, Martins’ defense stated that “it considers the decision to further restrict the freedom of Filipe, who was already the target of an illegal arrest last year, based on the acts and conduct of third parties, to be absurd and states that he will appeal the decision and denounce it in the appropriate forums, inside and outside Brazil.”
