O former Rio de Janeiro councilman, Carlos Bolsonaro (PL), listed this Friday (26) six health problems that his father, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), has been facing this since completing surgery to correct bilateral inguinal hernia, at the DF Star Hospital, in Brasília (DF), where he is hospitalized.

The politician defined “diseases and comorbidities” as reported in a document with medical proof sent to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Meanwhile, the former president is also undergoing monitoring after the procedure carried out on Thursday (25), the Christmas holiday.

  • Gastroesophageal reflux with esophagitis. Primary essential hypertension (high blood pressure);
  • Atherosclerotic heart disease (heart problems).
  • Carotid occlusion and stenosis (vascular problem).
  • sleep apnea
  • Squamous cell carcinoma (skin lesions that would have been diagnosed as skin cancer)
  • Uncontrollable hiccups with constant reflux causing vomiting (needing to use medications that act on the central nervous system to deal with this condition).

Symptoms of depression

Also this Friday, in an exclusive interview with SBT News, doctor Cláudio Birolini highlighted the importance of Bolsonaro’s mental situation in favoring recovery. According to him, the former president shows signs of stress and depression, which can intensify hiccups and delay the expected full recovery.

“We know that moments of greater anxiety and stress end up contributing to more intense bouts of hiccups. One thing leads to another: he becomes stressed, depressed, starts having hiccups and, because of this, becomes even more nervous. This ends up triggering a very difficult situation, which we need to deal with”, said Birolini.

This Friday, the former president also began rehabilitation with physiotherapy sessions.

Bolsonaro hospitalized in Brasilia

Bolsonaro has been admitted to the health unit since Wednesday (24), the day before the surgery date, when he left the Federal Police (PF) Superintendency. Last week, Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes denied the request for him to recover from surgery under house arrest.

Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro accompanies her husband, as well as her children Flávio, Carlos, Jair Renan and Laura, all authorized to visit their father during his hospitalization at DF Star.
