São Paulo is experiencing busy days behind the scenes, with several complaints about alleged corrupt practices that have harmed the club’s finances. In addition to the possible removal of President Júlio Casares, a process that is ongoing, Tricolor Paulista fans have also organized themselves to express their dissatisfaction with the current direction.

In addition to protests and demonstrations around Morumbis, fans have also organized online movements. One of them gained the hashtag #unfollownocasares, proposing that users stop following the official profile of the current president of São Paulo on Instagram.

When the movement began, Casares was approaching 1 million followers. Currently, the leader has 647 thousand followers.

What is the situation of Casares in São Paulo? Will you be impeached?

The request for President Júlio Casares’ removal was filed on December 23, with 58 signatures, including 13 from advisors who previously supported the current president. For Olten Ayres de Abreu Júnior, president of the Tricolor Deliberative Council, to proceed with the request, 50 signatures were needed.

After this first stage, Olten now forwards the removal discussion to the club’s Advisory Council. Casares will be able to present his defense after this stage.

Among the points raised, poor budget management, the sale of athletes below market value and improper use of a box at Morumbis will be discussed.

For impeachment to be approved, a qualified majority of two-thirds of the Deliberative Council is required (171 of the 255 possible votes). If impeachment is approved, the president will be provisionally removed.

Within 30 days after the vote, a General Assembly of members will be called to ratify or not the decision, with a simple majority being sufficient.

In the event of a ratified impeachment, vice-president Harry Massis Júnior will assume the presidency of São Paulo until the next elections, which take place at the end of 2026.
