Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake follows the same story as the original game released in the 2000s. twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura follow a trail of butterflies and end up entering Minakamian abandoned Japanese village surrounded by a gloomy atmosphere.

Early on, Mayu moves away and seems “attracted” to something in the place, while Mio tries to find her. As Mio explores homes, shrines, and mist-covered paths, she discovers that Minakami has become the site of an ancient ritual designed to contain spirits. The center of this ritual involves twins and a brutal sacrifice.

To survive and uncover what happened there, Mio uses a camera capable of confronting and revealing ghosts and searching for her sisterwhile gathering clues about the people who lived in Minakami and why the ritual went wrong.

Differences to the original game

According to the development team, the main from the original game have been maintained and improved. The biggest difference is in the graphics, which have been refined and reimagined to increase the quality of the gaming experience.

One of the new features is the possibility of regaining strength by holding Mayu’s hand. In this way, the character can restore her health and spiritual power, reinforcing the bond between the sisters as an important element of the narrative.

The system has also been updated. Now, it is possible to use features such as focus, zoom and change filters to repel the ghosts that appear along the way.
