Four members of a Spanish family missing in a shipwreck in Indonesia | Spain

Indonesian rescue teams are searching this Saturday for four Spaniards, two adults and two children, who disappeared on Friday after the capsize of a boat near the island of Padar, east of Bali. Two other Spaniards could be rescued from the boat, in which eleven people were traveling, and they are fine.

Foreign sources have confirmed to EL PAÍS that the Indonesian authorities have confirmed to Spain the disappearance of the four members of the family, after suffering a shipwreck and that the rescue teams are still searching for them. “The Consulate in Jakarta is paying all consular attention to two other people in the group who are now out of danger, moving personnel to Labuan Bajo, and in contact with the families of those affected,” these sources add.

The Indonesian SAR emergency service has explained in a statement that the missing people (a couple and their two children) are from Spain, as are two other people who have already been rescued along with four crew members and a tour guide.

Apparently, the bad sea conditions, with strong waves, caused the shipwreck. “This complicated our task in the initial search,” the director of the port authority of the tourist destination of Labuan Bajo, Stephanus Risdiyanto, told the Indonesian agency.

The boat for tourist use, called KM Putri Sakinahsank in the waters of Padar around 8:30 p.m. on Friday (2:30 p.m. Spanish peninsular time) after suffering an engine failure, according to preliminary information.
