He was known for his civility, gentle humor and ability to appeal to both children and adult audiences. However, the father of the Czech actress and artist Jana Krausová (71) voluntarily took his own life, writes . On August 17, 39 years have already passed since this tragic event.

Czech actor and puppeteer Josef Pehr was born on September 14, 1919 in Prague. From 1948 he was a member of the drama troupe of the National Theater and from 1953 he taught puppetry at the Prague DAMU. He appeared in the films Holiday with Angel and Angel on the Mountains, where he played with Jaroslav Marvan, or the fairy tale Once Upon a King like a bagpiper who fell in love with Princess Songbird.

Pehr also appeared on television, where he had programs for children, in which he led the doll Pepíček, the dog puppet or the characters Kuťásk and Kutilka. He was also the author of several theatrical puppet plays.

His first marriage with actress Luba Skořepová ended in divorce and no children. His daughter Jana was only born in a union with his colleague Jiřina Genzerová, but it didn’t work out for him the second time either. Jana was later raised by the actor Vladimír Dvořák, who with Jiřina Bohdalová was a pair of presenters of the entertaining TV program Televariety, she considered him a second father.

He ended his engagement in the drama troupe of the National Theater in June 1985 after 37 years. Already on August 17 of the following year, three days after his 67th birthday, he decided to voluntarily leave the world and committed suicide.
