Cruzeiro remains aggressive in the transfer market, and the hottest name that has been circulating behind the scenes at Toca da Raposa II is Gerson.
Marcão Silva, father of the Zenit-RUS midfielder, commented this Friday (26) about the interest of the Celeste board and the player’s desire to return to the Brazilian team.
“Gerson’s desire is to play and be part of the World Cup group. That is his great desire”, said Marcão Silva, in contact with Itatiaia.
During the conversation, it was highlighted more than once that Gerson has a contract with Zenit, and that, out of respect for the club he represents, he will only open talks with Cruzeiro if the Russians wish. The 28-year-old midfielder has a contract until June 2030.
“The project, bold or not… Everyone goes as far as they have the courage to go. But, today, I repeat again, I hope that Cruzeiro’s project is beautiful, that it is full of achievements, but Gerson has a contract with Zenit. If someone wants to buy it, Zenit has to want to sell it”, added Marcão Silva.
Gerson at Cruzeiro?
Signing Gerson could be a smart move by Cruzeiro amid Russian interest in Jonathan Jesus. The Europeans approached the celestial board last week and presented an offer for the athlete of R$8 million euros (R$50.5 million), a value that, in principle, is of no interest.
Cruzeiro understands that they could receive more for the defender, but. To arrange the arrival of the midfielder, the celestial club would have to send a proposal offering Jonathan Jesus along with a considerable amount of money.
The fact is that the person who has been making market decisions at Cruzeiro is Joaquim Pinto, the club’s scouting manager. Very knowledgeable in the area, the Portuguese received Pedro Lourenço’s approval to handpick the new reinforcements for next season.
Gerson in Russia
Gerson left Flamengo shortly after the Club World Cup, in July, and agreed with Zenit in a transfer valued at 25 million euros – the equivalent of R$160 million at the time. In Russia, the midfielder has experienced ups and downs, with an injury along the way and 15 games under his belt.
