A wooden cruise ship sank late Friday off the coast of the Indonesian island of Padar. Four Spanish tourists are still missinginforms TASR based on the report of the DPA agency.
A traditional Indonesian sailing boat (pinisi) was carrying 11 people – six tourists from Spain, four crew members and a local guide – when sank in the strait near Padar, the third largest island of Komodo National Park. Seven people were saved on Saturday in the early hours of the morning with the help of the nearby tourist boats and the rescue team.
The search operation continues on Saturday. Unstable weather conditions have prevailed in the area in recent days and meteorologists have warned of an increased risk to maritime traffic in eastern Indonesia.
Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Indonesia’s fastest growing tourist destinations. It attracts visitors with coral reefs, diving sites and Komodo dragons – lizards two to three meters long and weighing up to 150 kilograms. which live in the wild and attract many tourists.
