Bodybuilder Kevin Notário Nunes de Oliveira, former state champion of Mato Grosso do Sul, died this Thursday morning (26), aged 28, at the Regional Hospital of Ponta Porã, a municipality located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The death was confirmed by the athlete’s father, councilor Marcelino Nunes de Oliveira.
According to information released by the family, Kevin was rushed to hospital after feeling severe pain in his thigh. After carrying out tests, doctors diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis, a rare infection that progresses quickly in muscle tissues.
The athlete underwent emergency surgery on Wednesday afternoon (25) and remained intubated. Despite the procedure, he could not resist the complications of the infection and died around 10 am this Thursday.
Known in the bodybuilding scene in Mato Grosso do Sul, Kevin won state titles and was recognized for his dedication to the sport.
On social media, the father associated his son’s death with the risks of illegal use of substances to quickly gain muscle mass, although he did not detail which products were used.
“The search for the ideal body led to my son Kevin’s early life. May this case serve as a warning to other young people and athletes who think about resorting to risky methods to enhance results”, said the councilor.
Kevin leaves two twin daughters. The body would be laid to rest in the Pax Mortuary Chapel, in Ponta Porã. The family was grateful for the expressions of support and solidarity.
