Mariah Carey’s holiday season just got a little better thanks to a lawsuit that was filed against her.
According to legal documents obtained by Complex, a judge dismissed a lawsuit against her over her hit song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and even ordered sanctions against the plaintiffs, Andy Stone and Troy Powers, arguing that the lawsuit was meritless and ruling that there was a good opportunity to get people to stop filing baseless lawsuits.
The star received US$92,303.20 (more than R$510,000) in sanctions, according to the documents, and almost US$20,000 (about R$110,000) was ordered to be paid to other people who are part of the case.

In 2023, Stone and Powers sued Carey, alleging that there were many similarities between “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and their song of the same name, which was allegedly recorded in 1989. In the lawsuit, Stone and Powers claim that their version of the song received wide release during the 1993 holiday season, and Carey’s version was released in 1994.
Their lawsuit was similar to a previous one they filed in 2022 before being withdrawn just five months later.
