Perry Bamonte, guitarist, bassist and keyboardist for The Cure, died at the age of 65, the band confirmed this Friday, the 26th. According to a post on the group’s official website, the musician could not resist a “quick illness” that struck him over the Christmas holiday.
“Quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and immensely creative, ‘Teddy’ [como era chamado pelos amigos] had a big heart and was a vital part of The Cure’s history,” the band said on its website. Bamonte joined the group’s staff in the 1980s, working as an assistant to lead singer Robert Smith, before joining the group’s official lineup in 1990.
“He played guitar, six-string bass and keyboards on the albums Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits and The Cure, in addition to playing in more than 400 shows over more than 14 years”, recalls the text. After recording the albums, Bamonte temporarily left The Cure in 2005, returning on different occasions before returning for good in 2022 for the Shows of a Lost World tour, ending in 2023.
