The party is considering launching its own candidate for government against the governor (Republicans) next year amid “growing discontent among mayors” and “recurrent complaints about the lack of attention to parliamentarians”.
The list of complaints is extensive. The PP states that there are communication difficulties and a “perception of distance” between the Tarcísio government and the party leadership, both at national and state level — the party is chaired nationally by the senator (PI) and, in São Paulo, by federal deputy Mauricio Neves.
The party also “assesses as insufficient the public and concrete support” given by the governor to the former state secretary of Public Security, pre-candidate for next year with the endorsement of the Bolsonaro family.
Among the possible candidates for the state government are the federal deputy, former minister of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), and Filipe Sabará, who was secretary of the João Doria government (PSDB), coordinated Pablo Marçal’s campaign for São Paulo City Hall and became one of senator Flávio Bolsonaro’s (PL-RJ).
Other names with “electoral viability, capacity for party articulation and support from strong political leaders” are also being analyzed, according to the party.
“Among the main reasons is the growing discontent of mayors in the party, today the PP has 54 mayors in São Paulo, in addition to recurring complaints about the lack of attention to parliamentarians, communication difficulties and a perception of distance between members of the current state government and the Progressistas party leadership, both at national and state level”, says the party.
The PP states that, with Flávio’s pre-candidacy, it has also considered it more strategic to have a candidate for governor “more aligned with the acronym’s national project”, which would facilitate the slates of candidates for federal and state deputy in São Paulo.
