That of the former general director of the PRF () Silvinei Vasques, convicted by the (Supreme Federal Court) for being associated with the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, accumulates a series of actions planned to leave the country.

Sentenced to 24 years and six months in prison, Silvinei was released, subject to precautionary measures, such as the use of an electronic ankle monitor, nighttime home confinement, prohibition on leaving the region and cancellation of his Brazilian passport.

On Christmas Eve, Silvinei left the apartment where he lived in Santa Catarina, broke the electronic monitoring and went to . It ended when he tried to board a flight to El Salvador with false documents.

Conviction (December 16)

  • Silvinei Vasques is sentenced to 24 years and six months in prison. He had already been arrested preventively in August 2023 and spent a year in detention.

  • As the deadline for submitting an appeal was still pending, the former PRF was granted provisional release, but with precautionary measures, such as the use of an electronic ankle monitor, night-time home confinement, a ban on leaving the district and a canceled passport.

Preparation for the escape (December 24)

  • 19h06: Images from the internal circuit of the building where Silvinei lived, in São José (SC), show the former director of the PRF placing bags in the trunk of a rented vehicle.

  • 19h14: He returns to the car and places more belongings in the back seat, including food and a large quantity of dog toilet mats.

  • 19h22: Silvinei appears again carrying pots of food and leading a pitbull dog. Then, he leaves the building driving the vehicle. This was the last visual record of the former director at the site.

Escape Alert (December 25)

  • Around 3am: Federal detects failure in monitoring Silvinei’s electronic ankle bracelet. The equipment stops transmitting GPS signal. Throughout the day, the device also loses the GPRS signal, possibly due to battery exhaustion.

  • Around 8pm: Santa Catarina Criminal Police are called to verify the address of the person being investigated. At the scene, he found that Silvinei was not in the apartment.

  • Around 11pm: A team from the Federal Police Regional Superintendence in Santa Catarina goes to the property. Police officers confirm, based on security camera images, that Silvinei used a rented vehicle to leave the building. The parking space was empty.

Arrest ordered (December 26)

  • Based on information provided by the Federal Police, the preventive detention of Silvinei Vasques was ordered for failure to comply with precautionary measures and attempted escape.

  • On the same day, at Asunción airport, in Paraguay, when he tried to board an international flight to El Salvador, using a false Paraguayan passport, issued in the name of Julio Eduardo.

  • Silvinei carried a letter in which he stated that he could not speak or hear, and said he was traveling for medical treatment.

  • At around 8pm, Silvinei was taken by the Paraguayan police to the border with Brazil and handed over to PF agents at the Ponte da Amizade, which connects Foz do Iguaçu, in Paraná, to Ciudad del Leste.

Transfer to Brasília (December 27)

  • Silvinei is transferred to Brasília (DF) after spending the night in Foz do Iguaçu.
