The Canadian Prime Minister announced the provision of economic aid to Ukraine in the amount of 2.5 billion dollars

Canada continues its support for Ukraine. After the meeting with Zelensky, Prime Minister Carney said that Russia must show a willingness for peace and announced economic aid.

Peace in Ukraine requires Russia’s willingness to achieve it, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Saturday. At a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Halifax, Canada, he also announced additional economic aid for Kyiv in the amount of 2.5 billion dollars. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency and the BBC station.

  • Canada will provide $2.5 billion in economic aid to Ukraine.
  • Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the Russian attacks on Kiev as barbaric.
  • Zelenskyy is planning talks with European leaders about the peace plan.

“We have the conditions … for a just and lasting peace, but that requires a willing Russia,” Carney said. According to him, the Russian attacks on Kyiv last night, which he described as “barbarism”, show how important it is to stand by Ukraine.

The journey of the Ukrainian president

Zelensky visited Canada on his way to Sunday’s meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida. He thanked Carney for his support and said the latest overnight attacks were “Russia’s response to our peace efforts and really show that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin does not want peace.”

In a brief statement to journalists, the Ukrainian leader added that two things are necessary to stop the war – pressure on Russia and sufficient strong support for Ukraine. According to him, some steps have been taken recently, but further diplomacy is needed.

Planned peace talks

After the meeting with the Canadian Prime Minister, Zelenskyi will talk to European leaders by phone about the current state of negotiations on the peace plan for Ukraine. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz organized the video call at his request, and according to the European Commission, its president Ursula von der Leyen will participate in it, DPA reported.
