US airlines canceled or delayed thousands of flights on Friday due to severe winter storm warnings on the East Coast of the United States. TASR informs about this according to a Reuters report referring to the FlightAware website.

According to FlightAware, a total of 1,139 flights were canceled and 3,808 were delayed by 12:30 p.m. Washington time (6:30 p.m. CET). The US National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a thunderstorm warning that will “cause hazardous travel conditions” in several parts of the United States from Friday through Saturday morning.

Several airports in the affected areas, including New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport and Detroit Airport, warned travelers on social networks of possible complications. JetBlue Airways (225), Delta Air Lines (186), Republic Airways (155), American Airlines (96) and United Airlines (82) canceled the most flights.
