Filipe Martins was special advisor for international affairs to the Presidency of the Republic during the Bolsonaro government

this Saturday (27) as determined by the minister from the STF (Supreme Federal Court). He was recently sentenced to 21 years in prison for attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and a coup d’état.

During the coup plot trials in the First Panel of the STF, Martins was part of the so-called “nucleus 2”, the same group as the former director of the PRF (Federal Highway Police) . According to the criminal action, the six defendants had prepared the “draft of the coup”, which consisted of a plan to assassinate the head of the Executive, (PT), or vice-president (PSB), and minister Alexandre de Moraes. They were also accused of organizing action in the Northeast to try to prevent voters in the region from voting in the 2022 elections.

According to Lieutenant Colonel in his plea bargain, Martins was responsible for presenting the “coup draft” to former president Jair Bolsonaro. The document determined the calling of new elections and the arrest of opponents of the former head of the Executive.

Filipe Martins was appointed by Bolsonaro, at the beginning of his administration, to the position of special advisor for international affairs to the Presidency of the Republic. He was part of the management group that had the philosopher as a guru.

The former advisor starred in a controversial episode during the Bolsonaro government. Martins was indicted for making a gesture deemed racist during a Senate session. He was denounced by the (Federal Public Ministry), but judge Marcus Vinicius Reis Bastos, from the 12th Federal Criminal Court of the Federal District, acquitted him.

Filipe Martins has a degree in international relations from UnB (University of Brasília). Before taking up a position in the Bolsonaro government, he was director of international affairs for the former PSL (Social Liberal Party). Acronym by which the former president was elected and which later merged with Democrats to form União Brasil.
