The political crisis that is plaguing São Paulo Futebol Clube was the subject of analysis on CNN Brasil’s Domingol program. Commentator Bruno Rodrigues made a strong warning about the risks the club runs if the internal situation is not resolved.
According to Bruno Rodrigues, São Paulo is following a “relegation playbook” that was only not implemented thanks to the performance of the technical team and players.
“I think it can, I even think the booklet is completely there, it’s just not filled in with the date and signature”, said the commentator when asked about the possibility of falling to the second division.
Challenge to the institutional crisis
The commentator highlighted that athletes, coaching staff and fans are “challenging the Series B playbook” that the institution has been preparing in recent years with its problematic management.
Despite recognizing that the club had a safe Brazilian Championship this season – just as it was the previous year with coach Zubeldia – Bruno says this more to the competence of the professionals involved than to the structure offered by the board.
One of the problems highlighted is the recurrence of delays in player payments. “São Paulo is also not the first season that delays payments, that delays player margin rights”, pointed out the commentator, remembering that these unstable financial situations are factors that usually precede relegations in Brazilian football.
Bruno also highlighted that, despite the difficulties imposed by management, the team’s performance in the Brazilian Championship has been safe, but is far from brilliant. “São Paulo played a Brazilian who, far from being brilliant, is very far from being brilliant, but São Paulo played a safe Brazilian this time”, he concluded.
