Drama in the High Tatras: Hungarian tourist stuck on a rock pillar! Helicopter strike

On Saturday (December 27) in the Mengusovská valley in the High Tatras, Polish tourists heard a call for help and alerted the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS). After checking the report, it turned out that a 21-year-old tourist from Hungary got stuck on a rock pillar in the area of ​​Žabí plies and had to be evacuated by helicopter. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the PAP agency.

According to information from the HZS, the Hungarian was moving outside the marked trail, which is seasonally closed. In the difficult terrain, without mountaineering equipment, he found himself in a situation from which he could not get out on his own. At first, another climber tried to help him, but he could no longer continue belaying in difficult conditions.

A helicopter with a crew was heading to the scene of the rescue operation, which launched near the tourist. The rescuers provided him with help and subsequently evacuated him suspended under the helicopter. After a stopover near Štrbské Pleso, he was a man pulled on board and transported to Starý Smokovec. He was not injured in the incident.
