At least 15 people were killed and 19 injured after a bus plunged into a canyon on the Pan-American Highway in western Guatemala, authorities said today.
“Fifteen people were killed in this horrific accident – 11 men, three women and a minor,” Leandro Amado, a spokesman for the district’s fire department, told reporters, adding that some 19 injured people were taken to nearby hospitals.

Where did the accident occur in Guatemala?
As reported by APE-MPE, the accident occurred in the Solola department – between the 172nd and 174th kilometers – an area known for the dense fog that prevails which reduces visibility for drivers.
Images posted by the fire service early this morning on social media showed the damaged bus in the canyon with firefighters struggling to rescue the victims.
