It triumphed in the Polish People's Republic. Today this name is almost forgotten

In times this name was widely known because of the children’s program “Friday with Pancracy” broadcast on television. The program attracted children and parents, and the adventures of a nice dog (a doll made of string, sponge and fishing lines, voiced by Hubert Antoszewski) were forever remembered by people growing up at that time.

At the same time, the name itself never gained much popularity in Poland. What is worth knowing about people named Pankracy and when do they celebrate their name days?

Pankracy to of Greek origin, derived from the words “pan”, meaning “all” and “kratos”, meaning “power”, “strength”. It means “almighty” or “victorious”. The word “Pantokrator” is translated as “Almighty”, “Sovereign”, “Lord of all”, and this name is used in Orthodox Christianity as a nickname for Christ.

Saint Pancrasy is a Roman martyr, a saint of the Catholic and Orthodox Church. He is one of the three so-called “cold gardeners”, together with Serwacy and Boniface. He was born at the end of the 3rd century in Phrygia, and after the death of his parents, he came to Rome with his uncle and was baptized by Pope Marcellinus.

After Diocletian’s edict on the persecution of Christians was issued, Pancrasy died in the arena. He was beheaded by a sword when he was a teenager. Hence he is depicted with a sword in his hand and is the patron saint of, among others, children and knights.

Pankracy’s name day falls on April 3 or May 12, the latter date being considered more popular. According to the PESEL register, published on the website Dane.gov.pl, this name is not particularly popular in our country.

Only 29 men in Poland have this name (as of January 22, 2025). In the first half of 2025, no one named their child Pankracy.

Men named Pancracy are distinguished by their diligence and accuracy. They are downright pedantic. They are characterized by a certain secrecy. They prefer familiar surroundings and are somewhat afraid of new things. However, they are honest and do not like lies and hypocrisy. You can rely on them.

The number of the name Pankracy is 8, so these men are responsible, determined, with impeccable morals and great wisdom in life. It is a bit difficult for them to start a family, but they are predisposed to achieve a high position at work. They also have a hand in money, of which there will certainly be plenty in my life.
