During the early hours of the morning, Bolsonaro again experienced an intense and prolonged bout of hiccups, which made it difficult to rest and led doctors to reevaluate his clinical management. Given the situation, it was decided to return to the surgical center this Saturday afternoon, just two days after the surgery carried out on Thursday (25/12), when the former president underwent a procedure to correct hernias.

The performance of the new procedure was confirmed on social media by the former first lady Michelle Bolsonarowho asked for prayers and support. In a publication, she reported that her husband underwent a phrenic nerve block, with the aim of definitively relieving the problem. Michelle reported that the family has been facing recurring episodes of hiccups for around nine months, which have caused anguish and emotional exhaustion. Shortly afterwards, she announced that the intervention had been completed.

Also on social media, the councilor Jair Renan Bolsonaro stated that, upon arriving at the hospital, he found his father being taken for the procedure urgently. He reported that he was unable to accompany him to the surgical center and criticized the presence of a police escort there, saying he would have liked to have been by his father’s side as a family member.

Bolsonaro has remained hospitalized since the surgery carried out over the Christmas holiday. According to the cardiologist Brazil Ramos Caiadodespite adjustments to his medication to control hiccups and gastroesophageal reflux, the former president spent the night with intense symptoms and difficulty sleeping, which led to the new intervention.
