Eleven centimeters of snow was recorded in New York’s Central Park, the most since January 2022, while other parts of the state saw up to 7.5 centimeters of snow, the US National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The last time with heavy snowfall was in 2022, when 25 cm of snow fell in Central Park.

Danger of black ice
The extremely difficult weather conditions have caused many travel problems with authorities warning that melting snow could lead to black ice forming on roads and bridges.
Cancellation of thousands of flights
At least 9,000 flights have been canceled or delayed since Friday night (12/26), according to flight tracking service FlightAware.
John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia airports issued snow warnings on social media, warning that the weather could lead to further flight disruptions.
The impact of the cold snap has been felt at airports across the country.
San Francisco and Orlando experienced travel delays. Hundreds of flight delays have also been reported at Florida airports, according to NBC News.
