Poland was hit by storms, especially the coast of the Baltic Sea

Strong gales hit the Polish coast of the Baltic Sea during the weekend. Firefighters intervened due to fallen trees and warnings warned of the threat of floods.

Strong gales plagued Poland on Saturday and Sunday, especially the area of the Baltic Sea coast around the city of Gdansk. According to Polish media, firefighters were deployed throughout the country mainly due to fallen trees, flood warnings were also issued. This was reported by the DPA agency, writes TASR.

In the Pomeranian Voivodeship, residents received warnings via mobile phones, in which they were asked to be careful when staying outside. According to them, the situation was particularly bad right on the sea coast and at the old mouth of the Vistula River, known as the Dead Vistula.

The TVN24 station, referring to the firefighters, reported on its website that the storm caused a reversal of the water flow in parts of the Vistula delta. “Due to the very strong north wind, water from the Baltic Sea is being pushed inland. This leads to backflow and thus a dangerous rise in river levels,” said the television reporter. According to local authorities, the city of Elblag is also threatened by floods, because the level of the river of the same name has risen dangerously as a result of the influx of water from the Baltic Sea.
