Former director of the PRF, transferred to Papuda this Saturday (27), alleged family financial difficulties and health issues during a custody hearing
The former director general of the (PRF), , asked the Federal Supreme Court () to remain detained in . The request was made during a custody hearing held after his transfer to the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in , which took place this Saturday (27).
Vasques, who had tried to flee the country on Christmas Eve, argued that his stay in the southern state would facilitate contact with his relatives. The former director justified the request by citing his family’s financial inability to bear the costs of frequent trips to Brasília. In addition to the economic aspect, the defense mentioned Silvinei’s health condition, who has celiac disease, as an additional factor in maintaining his custody close to the family nucleus.
The movement occurs after a failed escape attempt. Silvinei was caught on security cameras leaving his residence in Santa Catarina on December 24, driving a rented vehicle. His final destination would be El Salvador, but he was intercepted by authorities in Paraguay before completing the journey.
Although she alleged to the Paraguayan authorities an alleged inability to communicate due to health reasons at the time of her capture, reports from Brazilian agents indicate that Silvinei does not have a speech impairment. Police officers described the former director’s state of mind as “dejected” since his reappointment.
Currently sentenced to 24 years in prison by the First Panel of the STF, Silvinei Vasques’ defense must formalize the request for transfer to the Santa Catarina prison system after the sentence becomes final. For now, he remains at the disposal of Justice in the federal capital.
