CIET estimates movement of 16.7 million tourists during the season and direct movement of R$41 billion
The State of São Paulo began, this weekend, in Bertioga, Operation Verão, the largest action aimed at the safety of residents and tourists who will travel through the State during the end of year and summer season.
According to CIET (Tourism Economy Intelligence Center), linked to the (Secretariat of Tourism and Travel of the State of São Paulo), the estimate is that more than 16.7 million people will visit destinations in São Paulo by the end of March. 7.5 million tourists are expected along the entire coast. Part of this total (1.95 million) should be concentrated only on the north coast, which represents a 5.7% increase in the flow of visitors compared to the previous season.
Projections indicate a direct financial movement of R$41 billion raised by tourism in the State during the season. The Secretary of Tourism and Travel, Roberto de Lucena, highlights the São Paulo government’s actions to ensure safety during the period of high demand. “There is no tourism without security, and the State of São Paulo is once again acting on behalf of citizens who seek experiences in coastal and inland destinations. We are doing our homework so that this is, without a doubt, the largest security operation in history”, he stated.
To guide and raise awareness among tourists, Setur-SP created the Conscious Tourist Guide. The material provides guidance on planning the trip, encouraging the discovery of destinations beyond the coast, safe purchase of tourist services, health and safety precautions, attention to weather conditions, conscious use of water and respect for local communities.
During the season, the state tourism department will also use QR Codes in communication actions, such as videos and printed materials, to facilitate access to content.
Operation Summer
The largest operation in the history of the state’s coastal region will involve R$55 million in investments, used to mobilize 4,075 military police officers and 436 vehicles, in addition to the support of the Civil Police and the Fire Department, as well as the use of 7 drones and 3 aircraft to monitor the coast.
According to the Public Security Secretariat, of the total number of personnel mobilized, around 2,800 police officers will work in Baixada Santista and 861 on the north coast. The operation also has 253 firefighters and 147 police officers from the Highway Police.
The government also announced, for this summer, the expansion of the Muralha Paulista program, which increases monitoring capacity on the coast through a network of cameras with facial recognition technology. At least 13 cities on the south and north coast participate in the program, with around 1,700 cameras, including facial recognition and license plate reading systems.
