Victims were rescued by Samu and taken to Japuíba Hospital; a woman is in serious condition
A fire on a speedboat left at least five people injured this Saturday afternoon (27) in Angra dos Reis, on the south coast of Rio de Janeiro. The accident occurred around 12:30 pm, in the region of Baía da Ribeira, close to Ilha da Gipóia. Videos posted on social media show the vessel engulfed in flames, with a large column of dark smoke visible in the distance. The Fire Department reported that it was called at 12:32 pm and that the victims received initial care from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).
According to Angra dos Reis City Hall, five people — three men and two women, aged between 13 and 29 — were admitted to the Japuíba Municipal Hospital. One of the injured, with burns to the lower part of his body, has already been discharged. The other four remain hospitalized.
Among the hospitalized patients, a woman presents the most serious condition, with burns on approximately 60% of her body, and is admitted to the intensive care center. Two adults remain under the care of the surgical clinic, while a teenager is admitted to the pediatrics ward. All underwent surgical procedures to remove tissue affected by the burns.
The Brazilian Navy reported that all occupants of the boat were rescued alive. A team from the Port Authority was at the scene and will launch an administrative inquiry to determine the circumstances of the fire and possible responsibilities. So far, the cause of the accident has not been disclosed.
