Trump guarantees that there are "foundations for a deal that is good for Ukraine." "Or [a guerra] ends, or will continue for a long time"

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, said this Sunday that the peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine is in the final stages and that it could happen “very quickly”.

Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky have already entered Mar-a-Lago to begin talks. Before retreating inside the building, Trump told journalists he believed a “quick” end to the war was a likely scenario. “We have the foundations of an agreement that is good for Ukraine, that is good for everyone.”

“Either it ends, or it will continue for a long time and millions more people will die. And nobody wants that”, warned the North American president. “I believe we can move forward very quickly.”

Still on the doorstep of Mar-a-Lago, the American president reinforced his confidence that the basis for a “good for Ukraine” agreement can be reached.

“Too many people died and I think both presidents want to reach an agreement,” Trump said. “I truly believe we have the foundations for a deal that is good for Ukraine and good for everyone. There is nothing more important,” he added.

The North American leader also added that there will be a “strong” security agreement for Ukraine and that “European nations are very involved” in the process. “I believe that European nations have been fantastic and are very aligned with this meeting and with reaching an agreement. They are all extraordinary people.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that negotiations between Washington and Kiev have advanced in the last month, expressing the hope that peace can be achieved as quickly as possible.

Before the bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump at the Mar-a-Lago complex in Florida, Zelensky indicated that the focus of the meeting will be on the 20-point peace plan and the sequencing of the agreement.

“It is very important that our teams discuss the strategy — how to move step by step to bring peace closer,” the Ukrainian leader told reporters.

Zelensky also added that around 90% of the plan has already been discussed between the teams.

Hours earlier, the American president and his Russian counterpart spoke on the phone about peace negotiations for Ukraine.

“I just had a good and very productive conversation with President Putin before the start of the meeting with President Zelensky”, announced the President of the United States, Donald Trump, on the social network Truth Social, which he owns.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the telephone conversation between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the first since October 16.

In addition to the peace agreement for Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East was also a topic of conversation, Peskov said, without giving further details.

In the meeting with his North American counterpart, Zelensky seeks Donald Trump’s approval for a new version of the peace plan for Ukraine, presented by Washington almost a month ago.

The Ukrainian president presented this week the new version of the document, reformulated after tough negotiations demanded by Kiev, which considered the first version too close to Russian demands.

The new document abandons two fundamental Kremlin demands: the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk region and a legally binding commitment from Ukraine not to join NATO.
