What 4 days? In Russia, the 6-day work week is discussed

A 4-day week would be a mistake – because Russians don’t know how to rest and wouldn’t know what to do with an extra day off.

Here, we are discussing whether to implement a 4-day work week. There are those who argue that this is what the 21st century economy is all about; Portuguese companies are; and this “myth” is happening in Germany.

More, already Russia, political and public discussion is heading in a different direction: 6 day work week.

The idea came from Gennady Onishchenko, former director of Rospotrebnadzor, a government agency that oversees the well-being and rights of Russian consumers.

The now vice-president of the Russian Academy of Education thinks that working 4 days a week in Russia would be a mistake – because Russians don’t know how to rest and wouldn’t know what to do with an extra day off.

Mass State Duma does not agree. Among the various criticisms that emerged from the lower house of Russia’s Parliament was the warning from Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma’s Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs.

“I respect the former head of Rospotrebnadzor, our former colleague in the Duma, Gennady Onishchenko, but I believe that, obviously, this should not be done”, quotes the agency.

In fact, the person responsible for the work of the Duma even thinks that Russians should work less: “On the contrary, we should strive to encourage people to work less and to dedicate more time to themselves, their families, their loved ones, sport, health and leisure”.

“This will prolong life, have a positive impact on demography and reduce disease. And we will get there gradually”, considered Nilov.

Labor legislation in Russia states that if a person work on a sixth consecutive day (when I should be off work), receive double on that day.

Therefore, “if they propose a 6-day work week, the salary will be normal, not double. This is wrong; would lead to a drop in income – an approach I do not support. And, in any case, this issue is not being discussed in the committee; there is no bill on the subject”, warned the deputy.

It should be noted that the defender of the week 6 diasGennady Onishchenko, thinks that this extension of working days is necessary for the economy Russian and will not affect health of the Russians.

“It’s perfectly normal; it’s about time if we want to boost the economy. As for health, there are no problems,” Onishchenko assured RIA Novosti.
