Jorge Mendes, manager of coach Filipe Luís, won the award for best agent in the world in 2025. At the 16th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards, held in Dubai, the trophy was presented to the Portuguese on Sunday afternoon (28).
The businessman is, for many in the football world, the personification of the “super agent” of modern football. Former agent of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese businessman built an empire that brings together some of the main talents in world football.

Who is Jorge Mendes, Filipe Luís’s manager?
Jorge Mendes, 59 years old, founded Gestifute in 1996, a career management company for sports professionals. Over the years, the businessman has been involved in some of the biggest sporting transfers in the world.
In just a few years, the company, based in Porto, achieved global status and Jorge Mendes was considered the best agent in the world. One of the reasons, well known to everyone, for this businessman’s rise was the fact that he was, for around 20 years, Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent.
In 2018, the agent mediated two of the biggest transfers in football: CR7’s move to Juventus and João Félix’s departure from Benfica to Atlético de Madrid. These two deals totaled around 220 million euros and Jorge Mendes received a good share in commissions.

With a fortune valued at 373 million euros, the sports career manager, owner of Gestifute, was elected by Forbes Portugal in 2024, the 37th richest among the country’s personalities.
His connection with the national star was, however, broken when the national player left Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Al Nassr, in 2021, marked the end of the relationship between them at Gestifute, even though both announced an amicable end.
In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, Jorge Mendes represents or has represented an extensive list of world football stars. Among his clients were names such as Di María, Bernardo Silva, João Félix, Bruno Fernandes, James Rodríguez, Radamel Falcao, Deco and Pepe, as well as renowned technicians such as José Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santo and André Villas-Boas.
Despite his enormous success, Jorge Mendes is also the target of criticism and controversy. Its concentration of power, the volume of commissions involved in large transfers and its influence behind the scenes in football often generate debates about ethics, regulation and market balance.
