
A healthcare worker has been arrested for a continued crime of theft in hospitals and ambulance transfers. The accused, who had a history of similar robberies, took advantage of the vulnerable situation of patients during their movements in the mobile ICU. The investigation began after four similar complaints of theft of wallets or personal property between October and December in these hospital environments, both from patients and their companions. The individual has already been released.
He has informed her of the crimes committed by the health worker in a press release where he compiles several of the acts attributed to him. “A woman reported that, on October 31, while she was waiting to be treated in the Emergency Department of the University Clinical Hospital, a guard took her purse claiming that he was going to put it somewhere else. Minutes later, upon recovering it, she discovered that her wallet was missing, which contained 60 euros, health cards and a,” the statement describes, emphasizing that the arrested person used those moments of confusion or nerves to commit the crimes.
A few weeks later, a man reported to the agents “the disappearance of his wife’s wallet, at the Río Hortega University Hospital, which contained 300 euros, three and a tenth of the Christmas Lottery.” This complainant highlighted that the events had occurred “after being assisted by an ambulance technician who manipulated the bag while helping them in a room at the center”, which allowed the investigations to develop.
On November 20, the son of a patient reported that during the ambulance transfer to the Valladolid hospital his father had lost a wallet with 200 euros and . That person arrived at the hospital alone and when the complainant entered the place where he was, he could see that those items were no longer there. That same day, the family also reported that a patient transported by ambulance had his wallet missing, with money, cards, and the .
These coincidences pointed to the suspected health worker, who had participated in all of those, and he was finally arrested on December 18, and was later released. The agents verified that the individual had been investigated for similar events in 2023, for stealing 500 euros from a woman’s purse during an ambulance transfer; in 2019, for the “theft of a wallet with 900 euros from a patient treated after a medical episode”; and in 2016 for two cases: “Theft of 300 euros from a man treated after a fall on a city bus” and “theft of 1,500 euros from a patient during his transfer by ambulance to the Clinical Hospital.”
