Bolsonaro has hiccups even after surgery and will undergo a new intervention

Former president Jair Bolsonaro has been experiencing hiccups even after undergoing an anesthetic block of the phrenic nerve on the right side and will undergo a new surgical intervention this Monday, at 2 pm, on the left side. The information is contained in a medical bulletin released by his team this Sunday (28).

According to medical information, he had difficulty sleeping and experienced hiccups again during the night.

Bolsonaro underwent the procedure on his right side on Saturday afternoon, without any complications, and remains in clinical recovery. The intervention is part of the treatment adopted to contain persistent bouts of hiccups, associated with complications resulting from the stab wound suffered during the 2018 presidential campaign.

The expectation is that the former president will remain hospitalized for at least another 48 hours after the procedure scheduled for this Monday, to monitor the post-operative period and observe the evolution of his condition.

He will continue in clinical care, with physiotherapy for rehabilitation, venous thrombosis prophylaxis measures and continuous pain monitoring.

The new procedure takes place in the context of surgery carried out last Thursday, when Bolsonaro underwent correction of a bilateral inguinal hernia. The operation lasted around three and a half hours and was considered successful by the medical team.

On Friday, doctors had already made adjustments to medications to control hiccups and treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. At the time, it was reported that Bolsonaro had begun rehabilitation with physiotherapy, was undergoing optimization of analgesia and receiving pharmacological measures to prevent thrombosis.

The hospitalization was authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), after Federal Police expertise indicated the need for medical intervention. Bolsonaro left the PF superintendence under reinforced escort and remains hospitalized in a private hospital in Brasília.
