The daily life of the daughter of the kings of Spain in Portugal takes place far from the usual public exposure associated with royalty and is based on a routine marked by discretion, academic life and a permanent security scheme. The young woman lives in Lisbon, integrated into a private university residence, and is accompanied by a protection device that involves more than a dozen police elements, despite being rarely recognized in public space.
The infanta is in Portugal to attend higher education and has adopted a way of life similar to that of other international students residing in the capital. According to the magazine Vidas, which appears every Saturday with the newspaper Correio da Manhã, his presence goes almost unnoticed, both in the area where he lives and in the spaces he frequents daily, between classes, walking and leisure moments.
A residence at the center of academic life
The same source says that Sofia lives in the Xior residence, located in the Benfica area of Lisbon, between the Fonte Nova and Colombo shopping centers. The building has individual rooms, common study areas and social spaces, allowing an independent experience without the need to go outside frequently.
The choice of this residence is related to its proximity to educational institutions and the existing security conditions. The space is described as functional and discreet, with no exterior signs that indicate the presence of a figure linked to Spanish royalty.
Permanent but barely visible security
The Infanta’s discretion does not dispense with a reinforced security scheme, ensured by between 10 and 12 members of the Spanish police, some from the National Police Corps and others from the Guardia Civil. The Public Security Police (PSP) is also involved in protecting the daughter of the kings of Spain. Surveillance is carried out in a non-ostensible manner, avoiding drawing attention to its presence.
The same source states that the agents accompany the young woman on the most sensitive trips and maintain constant surveillance in the vicinity of the residence. Even so, the device was designed not to interfere with the normality of academic life or circulation in public space.
Between Portugal and Spain, a life shared
Despite studying and living in Portugal, the Infanta frequently travels to Spain to be with her family at official events.
The magazine also highlights that this is not the first time that members of the Spanish royal family have chosen to live in Portugal at specific stages of their lives, taking advantage of the country’s geographic proximity and stability. The former head of the Spanish Royal House, D. Juan de Borbón, and King Juan Carlos also spent long periods of time in Portugal.
