Donald Trump announced that the US launched an attack on a facility in Venezuela

The United States has reportedly dismantled a facility in Venezuela linked to drug smuggling, Donald Trump said. Neither the White House nor Venezuela have yet confirmed the strike.

In an interview with WABC radio station on Friday, US President Donald Trump said that two days ago the United States “knocked out” a facility in Venezuela where the smuggling boats are said to be coming from. TASR informs about it according to reports from CNN and NBC News, Bloomberg and The New York Times (NYT).

“They have a big plant or a big facility where those ships are coming from. We took it out two days ago. We hit them hard,” Trump said in an interview with WABC radio host John Catsimatidis. The American president made this statement during a discussion about the actions of the United States against Venezuela and its president Nicolás Maduro.

US intervention in Venezuela

It is unclear what facility Trump was referring to or where it was located. According to the CNN source, it was a facility where drugs were produced, but he did not provide more information about the attack. Venezuela has not reported any strike on its equipment. The US military, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the White House refused to answer the NYT’s questions.

If the American strike is confirmed, it will be the first attack directly on the territory of Venezuela since the beginning of Trump’s campaign against drug smuggling from this South American country. The head of the White House has been warning for several weeks that he is ready to expand operations against smugglers to include attacks inside Venezuela.
