The armed wing of Hamas confirmed its unwillingness to give up its weapons. This issue is central to the negotiations between Trump and Netanyahu.
The armed wing of the Palestinian militant movement Hamas reaffirmed on Monday that it will not give up its weapons. The AFP agency reminds that this is a key issue that US President Donald Trump will likely discuss during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later on Monday, writes TASR.
“Our people are defending themselves and will not give up their weapons as long as the occupation lasts,” the brigades’ new spokesman, Izzadin Kasama, who adopted the name of his late predecessor Abu Ubayd, which translates as “father of the faithful,” said in a statement.
The militants also announced the death of the former spokesman of the armed wing of Hamas on Monday.
Negotiations between Trump and Netanyahu
Trump should receive Netanyahu at his residence in Florida and together they should discuss the next phase of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip. The war, sparked by a Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, was ended by a cease-fire brokered by the United States. It entered into force in October.
