On Monday, Interpol reported on a large-scale operation in Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe, which led to the arrest of 85 wanted persons and the tracing of another 18 people. This was pointed out by the DPA agency, writes TASR.
Investigators from 17 countries participated in the six-month campaign of the international police agency from June to November. It was aimed at sharing intelligence and dealing with 184 high-priority cases, Interpol said.
According to the agency, the operation was aimed at “the most dangerous fugitives wanted for violent crimes or links to transnational organized crime”. Among those arrested were 19 people wanted for murder, 29 for drug trafficking, 28 for crimes committed against children and seven for rape. Other persons were detained by the authorities for human trafficking, money laundering and other crimes.
Interpol confirmed that one of the most wanted persons in Chile – Lissette Ysabel Rojas Guevara – was detained in Spain as part of the operation. She was arrested in connection with a cryptocurrency fraud worth 150 million dollars. These were cases of drug trafficking and extortion in Chile, Colombia, Venezuela and the Iberian Peninsula.
Investigators also detained one Brazilian citizen in Portugal and one Albanian in the United Arab Emirates for cocaine traffickingInterpol said. The operation was carried out as part of a project financed by the European Union, the aim of which is to create a permanent international network of investigators focused on the search for wanted persons.
