Italian police carried out a raid in Brescia during which they seized three tons of illegal fireworks. New Year’s celebrations in the country are associated with strict bans on pyrotechnics.
Italian police seized three tons of illegal fireworks, detained one person and summoned 14 people for questioning during a raid in the area of the city of Brescia in Lombardy on Monday. The agency ANSA informed about it, writes TASR.
In most Italian cities, setting off fireworks on New Year’s Day is prohibited, but many Italians break this ban. The police are therefore carrying out raids with the intention of securing illegal fireworks. During one of them in Pisa, she seized 48 kilograms of pyrotechnics.
Prohibitions
Vendors give different catchy names to fireworks in Italy every year in order to attract young noise lovers. In 2023 it was the so-called Kvara Bomb named after the Georgian striker of the football club SSC Napoli Chviča Kvaracchelija. According to the ANSA agency, other names of fireworks include the COVID Bomb, Maradona Bomb and Pope Bomb.
Naples has the highest number of injuries and sometimes deaths during New Year’s celebrations every year. Unlike other cities, the local authorities do not enforce the ban on the use of fireworks.
In 2008, local women launched a “no sex if you set off fireworks” campaign. They had some success, as the number of injuries fell by about 100 that year.
