Resident for more than 35 years in the Praia do Amarílio neighborhood, in Sena Madureira, retired Francisco Vaz de Souza, 70 years old, expresses concern about the flooding of the Iaco River. Even though it is December, the water level has already reached 13.29 meters, approaching the alert level of 14 meters.

In Sena, Praia do Amarílio is the first neighborhood to be hit by the flood. “The moment is really worrying. I had never seen so much water in the month of December. But, let’s hope in God because flooding causes a lot of inconvenience for all of us”, he commented.

At Praia do Amarílio, several houses were built on the banks of the Cafezal stream, which ends up being dammed by the flood of the Iaco River. This is why families are affected. For now, there are still no homeless residents.

The Civil Defense, Fire Department, City Hall and sectors linked to the State Government are on alert and ready to assist families in case of need.

Normally, the Iaco flood occurs mainly in the months of February and March.
