MPF ends 2025 with 400 open investigations against organized crime

The MPF (Federal Public Ministry) announced that 400 investigations against organized crime are underway by the end of 2025. The numbers were collected by the coordination of Gaeco Nacional, which consolidated the work of the MPF units to combat criminal organizations this year.

The National Gaeco (Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime) was created last July to strengthen the MPF’s actions in the combating national and transnational organized crimeworking in partnership with the organization’s 27 groups.

The core of the state of São Paulo leads in the number of ongoing investigations (68) and complaints made (28). Rio de Janeiro, in turn, leads in the financial volume of requests for blocking and seizure of assets (R$ 23 billion) and in the number of operations launched (12).

In total, they were presented to the Federal Court 126 complaints against 929 people. The financial volume of assets subject to blocking requests involves operations to combat various types of crimes, the most common being criminal organizations, money laundering and international drug trafficking.

The performance of the 27 state units of the Gaecos of the Federal Public Ministry in 2025 resulted in . Throughout the year, more than 60 operations were launched, resulting in 126 arrests.

Each unit presented specific focuses of action, according to different regional and state realities. The information gathered shows that Gaeco Nacional, for example, focused efforts on transnational crimes.

In general, in local units the main target was the international drug trafficking. But in several states the concentration occurred in different crimes, such as environmental crimes, corruption, the repression of anti-democratic acts, arms trafficking, crimes against the financial system, cybercrimes and the usurpation of Union assets.
