Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel said emergency responders received a report of the accident around 11:25 a.m. local time on Sunday. After arriving at the scene, firefighters extinguished the fire that engulfed one of the helicopters. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an Enstrom F-28A helicopter collided with another Enstrom 280C over Hammonton Airport. Only pilots were on board each helicopter.
The seriously injured person was taken to a nearby hospital. The accident will be investigated by the FAA along with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Hammonton, with a population of approximately 15,000, is located about 56 kilometers southeast of Philadelphia.
