Opposition articulates pressure during recess to try to impeach minister Alexandre de Moraes

The movement marks an interruption in the parliamentary recess, which officially began on December 23 and runs until February. The last activity of Congress was the approval of the Budget, on February 19th.

The leader told the Metropolises that the summoning of right-wing parliamentarians to Brasília during recess is to put political pressure on the Supreme Court, because, according to him, “no one can stand” the magistrate anymore.
According to the report, the presence of 16 deputies and senators is expected. The request mentioned by Gilberto was filed last Tuesday (12/23) by the senator (Republicanos-DF).

The opposition’s offensive took place after Moraes’ controversies involving Banco Master

  • The opposition plans to interrupt the recess to press for an impeachment request against STF minister Alexandre de Moraes;
  • The offensive is being expanded after the publication of a report by the newspaper O Globo about alleged pressure from Moraes on the president of the BC, Gabriel Galípolo;
  • Moraes denies this and has already released three different notes to try to clarify the matter.

The DF parliamentarian accuses Moraes of “administrative advocacy” after he allegedly sought out the president of the (BC), Gabriel Galípolo, to intercede in favor of Banco Master, owned by Daniel Vorcaro. Moraes claimed, in notes, that the matter with Galípolo was discussed and that he did not deal with the Master’s situation.

The new impeachment request must be addressed to the president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP). In Casa Alta, Moraes has more than 80 representations of this type, but none are in progress.

Understand Moraes’ controversies with Banco Master

Journalist Malu Gaspar, from the newspaper The Globemade a report publicizing an alleged meeting between Moraes and Galípolo to ask the Central Bank to authorize the purchase of Banco Master by the Brasília state bank, BRB.

After the case was revealed, Moraes even issued three notes trying to clarify the meetings with Galípolo. In one of them, it says that they both discussed the Magnitsky Law.

Request for CPI and impeachment

After the repercussion of the case, senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE) announced that he will collect signatures for the opening of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate the controversies.

“After the recess, I will collect signatures to investigate news about a contract between Banco Master and Minister Moraes’ family office, worth 129 million reais, outside the law standard, in addition to this news of the minister’s direct action in favor of the bank”, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In the Chamber, the leader of Novo, Marcel Van Hattem (RS), announced the collection of signatures for a new impeachment request against Moraes.

“In view of the new revelations that the Minister of the STF practiced administrative law with the Central Bank in favor of Banco Master, with whom his wife Viviane Barci de Moraes has a contract worth almost 130 million reais, our responsibility as public authorities inspectors is inescapable,” he wrote.
