Grêmio opened talks with Palmeiras to agree on the loan of left-back Caio Paulista. The information was initially released by journalist Venê Casagrande this Tuesday (30).
Caio was not part of Abel Ferreira’s plans for the 2026 season. The loan should be until the end of the season. The Grêmio board responds to the request of coach Luís Castro, who sees Caio as a very versatile player for next season.

Loaned by Verdão to Atlético-MG at the beginning of 2025, Caio Paulista had a discreet spell at the Minas Gerais club. The full-back was unable to establish himself, lost space throughout the year and ended up being left aside by Jorge Sampaoli, especially in the final stretch of the season, which led Galo to rule out new loan negotiations.
With this, Palmeiras finalized the definitive purchase of Bruno Fuchs, a player involved in the exchange for Caio Paulista, and announced the defender with a contract valid until 2029. The left-back had been a direct request from Abel Ferreira at the end of 2023 and arrived at the club after Verdão surpassed São Paulo in the dispute for the athlete.
Despite the coach’s approval, Caio was unable to continue or perform well when he was called by Palmeiras, which resulted in him leaving on loan. For 2026, the alviverde squad has Piquerez as the starter, Jefté as the first option on the bench and young Arthur Gabriel as an alternative.
Palmeiras agreed to loan Caio Paulista to Grêmio. The player arrives at Tricolor Gaucho after request and approval from Luís Castro. The coach understands that Caio Paulista is a versatile athlete and can help a lot throughout the season.
