The secretary of the Rio Civil House, Nicola Miccione, joined the party in November as a first move to pave the way for his choice as the party’s candidate in the indirect election to be held in 2026.
The “buffer government” will be chosen after the likely resignation of (PL) in March to run for the Senate. Miccione is the governor’s favorite, as he is seen as a technical, reliable and unpretentious name for the October election.
The indirect election may occur because the state has been without a vice-governor since May last year, when Thiago Pampolha resigned to take up a seat at the TCE (State Audit Court). The appointment was part of a strategy to increase the visibility of the president removed from Alerj, (União), the government’s former name for succession.
The plans were changed after Bacellar’s arrest and his subsequent removal from office by minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court). He is suspected of having leaked the operation in which former deputy TH Joias was arrested, in connection with Comando Vermelho. Bacellar denies the accusations.
