The mayor of Monção said that the search for the 77-year-old woman was resumed this Tuesday “to see if she was found in the rubble or if she had escaped”.
A fire that broke out at 10:41 pm on Monday completely destroyed a house in Riba de Mouro, Monção, and the search for the elderly woman who lived alone in the house was resumed this Monday, civil protection revealed.
Contacted by Lusa, a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Alto Minho said that the “housing completely burned down and it is suspected that there was someone inside”.
To Lusa, the mayor of Monção, in the district of Viana do Castelo, said that “the searches for the 77-year-old woman continued until 5:00 am and were resumed today to see if she was found in the rubble or if she had escaped.”
“The searches were resumed with heavier machines,” said António Barbosa, adding that the causes of the fire were unknown.
According to the social-democratic mayor, “the Judiciary Police (PJ) was on site during the early hours of the morning and will return to the site today.”
The fire mobilized 12 vehicles and 28 Volunteer Firefighters, GNR and PJ personnel to Riba de Mouro, the most distant parish in the municipality of Monção, and to Cavenca, the most distant place within the parish.
