Zelensky rejects Moscow’s accusations and says that Russia is trying to “undermine all the achievements” achieved in the diplomatic sphere
US President Donald Trump said he was “very angry” about the alleged Ukrainian attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence, which Kiev says was “another Russian lie”.
“This is not the right time. It’s one thing to be offensive, because they are offensive. It’s another thing to attack his house. It’s not the right time to do any of that, they can’t do it. I found out today from President Putin and I was very angry about it”, said Trump, this Monday, at his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu by his side.
Trump also said that Putin told him that he was “very angry.” “Do you know who told me about that? President Putin told me about that. Early in the morning, he said he was attacked”, he said, also highlighting that this was one of the reasons why he “stopped the Tomahawks” towards Ukraine.
The US president received Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, to discuss the new version of the US plan to end the conflict, following talks with Kiev.
After more than three hours of meeting, both said they had resolved “more than 95%” of the document, although differences persist over the future of Donbass (eastern Ukraine) and a possible ceasefire.
The evolution of the talks was, however, conditioned by the drone attack that, according to Moscow, targeted one of Putin’s residences the previous night.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the incident would bring Russia to what has already been achieved.
Russia accused Ukraine of launching 91 drones overnight against Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region, an allegation that Kiev denounced as a “lie” by Moscow. Volodymyr Zelensky immediately rejected Moscow’s accusations, stating that Russia was trying to “undermine all the achievements” achieved in the diplomatic sphere.
“Typical Russian lies,” declared Zelensky.
The Kremlin reported that, during today’s telephone call, Putin warned Trump of his intention to review some previous understandings, while the American leader was “outraged” by the attack, which he described as a “reckless” action by Kiev.
According to White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, it was the second telephone call between the two leaders in 24 hours, after a first conversation considered “good and very productive” and held before the meeting between Trump and Zelensky on Sunday in Florida.
