Dutch police have arrested a Syrian man they suspect of being a member of the Islamic State and planning a terrorist attack around Christmas. He is currently in custody.
Dutch police have arrested a 29-year-old Syrian, whom they suspect of being a member of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) and of planning an attack somewhere in Europe. This was announced on Tuesday by the local prosecutor’s office, TASR writes, according to a Reuters report.
Prosecutors said the Dutch intelligence service AIVD discovered social media posts in which the man threatened to carry out an attack around Christmas at an unspecified location in Europe. They did not publish more information about the alleged attack or membership in IS.
The Syrian was arrested on December 18 at his home in the city of Vlissingen in the southwest of the Netherlands. On Tuesday, the court decided on his detention for at least another 30 days.
