The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen attacked an arms shipment from the United Arab Emirates

The Saudi-led coalition struck a cargo of military vehicles at the port and warned southern separatists of further confrontation. Riyadh has called on the Emirati-backed forces to withdraw peacefully from the occupied provinces.

On Tuesday, the Saudi-led coalition attacked a large number of weapons and combat vehicles that were being unloaded from ships from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Yemen, the Saudi Arabian news agency SPA reported on Tuesday. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.

  • Saudi Arabia carried out an airstrike on a weapons depot in Yemen.
  • The operation was in accordance with international humanitarian law.
  • Saudi Arabia supports the internationally recognized government of Yemen.
  • The separatists have gained new territory despite calls for a withdrawal.

The operation was carried out in accordance with international humanitarian law

At the same time, the coalition warned that it is ready to support the Yemeni government in the military confrontation with the separatist forces and called on them to “peacefully” withdraw from the recently occupied provinces.

The ships arrived from the port of Fujairah on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, SPA said, adding that the operation was carried out in accordance with international humanitarian law and there was no collateral damage.

Saudi Arabia is a major supporter of the internationally recognized government of Yemen

The separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC), backed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has gained new territory in Yemen in recent weeks, while Saudi Arabia, the main backer of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, has strongly called on the STC to withdraw from the newly occupied territories.

A war has been raging in Yemen since 2014, which, according to the French news agency AFP, has claimed the lives of more than 150,000 fighters and civilians. The war caused one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. During the war in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis also attacked Israel and ships in the Red Sea, citing solidarity with the Palestinians. Yemen, in turn, became the target of retaliatory air strikes by Israel. Since the beginning of the cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, these attacks have stopped on both sides.
