They prevented a tragedy: the police arrested a Syrian suspect, he threatened a terrorist attack

Dutch police have arrested a 29-year-old Syrian, whom they suspect of being a member of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) and of planning an attack somewhere in Europe. This was announced on Tuesday by the local prosecutor’s office, TASR writes, according to a Reuters report.

The prosecution said that the Dutch intelligence service The AIVD discovered posts on social networks in which a man threatened to commit an attack around Christmas at an unspecified location in Europe. They did not publish more information about the alleged attack or membership in IS.

The Syrian was arrested on December 18 in his home in the city of Vlissingen in the southwest of the Netherlands. On Tuesday, the court decided on his detention for at least another 30 days.
